What it is on the research record
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide modelled on a short active region of thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring protein involved in cell movement and tissue repair. Much of the interest in it traces back to animal work on wound healing and to its use in veterinary settings.
Research reviews of thymosin beta-4 describe effects on wound repair and inflammation in laboratory models. Controlled human data for TB-500 itself is very limited.
Thymosin beta-4 and related peptides are prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency's list.
