What it is on the research record
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist. Unlike retatrutide it has finished its trial programs and is approved in several countries as a prescription medicine, sold under brand names that are not the subject of this page.
The SURMOUNT-1 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2022, followed adults with obesity for 72 weeks. The highest-dose group lost an average of 20.9 percent of body weight. The SURPASS trials studied it in type 2 diabetes.
A research vial of tirzepatide is not the approved medicine. It is a powder sold for laboratory use, and its identity and purity are only as good as the certificate for that lot.
