PT-141, or bremelanotide, is a melanocortin receptor agonist. It grew out of research on a tanning compound, when researchers noticed an unexpected effect on sexual arousal.
In 2019 the US FDA approved a branded bremelanotide medicine for one specific use in premenopausal women. Research vials are a different product.
